Each year the Nebraska Admirals Association organizes "Operation Ornament".

The project provides the public an opportunity to create a handmade ornament to send to a sailor, a soldier, or a veteran. Ornaments are made and then sent to the crew of the U.S.S. Nebraska, USS Omha and veterans who are residents of State Veterans Homes. Nebraska elementary schools and a booth at the State Fair help make these ornaments.
